Powers:
contact lens prescription Information
Also known as Sphere (SPH), Power is the measurement of lens power prescribed to correct nearsightedness or farsightedness. If you have a (-) power in this section of your prescription you are nearsighted; if the number is a (+) power you are farsighted.
CYL
contact lens prescription Information
'CYL' stands for 'cylinder' and is the measurement used to correct for astigmatism. Pay close attention to whether you have a (-) value to correct nearsightedness or a (+) value for farsightedness. CYL power always follows sphere power in an eyeglass prescription. If your prescription doesn’t include this value, then you can leave this field blank.
AXIS
contact lens prescription Information
Defines the angle or direction of the astigmatism expressed in degrees. It’s written next to the CYL value on your prescription. Interestingly, this value has nothing to do with how well you can see, but is important for positioning the lenses in the frame. You can leave this field blank if it’s not written on your prescription.
PD
contact lens prescription Information
PD stands for pupillary distance. It’s used to determine the optical center of your lenses, which is the location that gives you the truest vision. The PD measurement represents the distance in millimeters between your eyes from mid-pupil to mid-pupil. For a pair of glasses to perform well, the lenses need to match the distance between your eyes. This is especially important if you have a high-strength prescription. For adults the typical PD range is 53mm to 70mm, and for children it’s 41mm to 55mm. Check your prescription or call your ECP for an accurate PD measurement.
